Planet mercury: Top unknown planet mercury facts

The following are some of the least known facts about the planet Mercury Credit: NASA/Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory/Carnegie Institution of Washington  (CC BY 2.0) Fact-1 Mercury has 2 sunrise and 2 sunset: One of the special feature about mercury is that it can have 2 sunrise and 2 sunset in a Mercurian day. Sun rises, then stops and moves back towards the horizon, then sun again rises. There are many videos in YouTube which shows this beautiful phenomenon.  The reason behind this phenomenon is the long days of mercury and its orbit around the sun. Mercury has the most eccentric orbit of all the planets hence its orbital speed varies as the distance from the sun changes. Also, it only takes 3 Mercurian days for completing 2 revolutions around the sun.  Because of all these reasons sun would appear to move backwards which results in the double sunrise and sunset. Fact-2 Most extreme temperature fluctuation in the solar system Mercury is the planet wi...

What is Gravitational Lensing and Einstein ring

The bending of light from its straight path due to massive objects is known as gravitational lensing. Sometimes this distortion can look like a ring around the massive body which is called an Einstein ring (see the image below). Credits:-  Lensshoe_hubble.jpg : ESA/Hubble & NASA                derivative work:   Bulwersator   ( talk ) In our high school, we learned that light always travels in a straight line, then you will be thinking how can light bend. What's happening here is that, the space around the object is curved. This is same as how a car/bike turns slowly if the road is slanted. pixabay The ability to bend space around an object increases with mass, hence black holes are a powerful lens. Since the amount of lensing depends on the mass we can use it to weigh clusters, galaxies. Similarly, light travelling closest to its center deviates more compared to the light travelling furthest to its center. This GIF shows lensin...

The real truth about Hollow moon theory

The Hollow Moon hypothesis says that moon is hollow, an  old abandoned alien spacecraft. This was said based on few observations. They said that small meteors were making cup shaped hole in the rocky surface of the moon while large meteors are going though this Rocky layer but stop after hitting something hard like a metallic covering/armor. After the Apollo mission seismometers were ...
